Art Therapy

Stay emotionally and cognitively fit with aged care art therapy

Art therapy can be a powerful outlet for emotional expression, a balm in distressing times, an engaging mental exercise and a wonderful opportunity to socialise and make the most of life.

The invaluable benefits of art therapy in nursing homes

We’re proud to be able to offer our residents regular access to multiple forms of group therapy. One of our most effective, not to mention popular, is art.

As fun as creating art can be, we don’t offer mere classes: our art therapy sessions are run by licensed therapists who use them to help residents achieve specific goals based on their emotional, cognitive, physical, and social needs.

Our sessions help residents to:

  • Improve memory retention and ease dementia symptoms
  • Improve cognitive function and communication
  • Improve fine motor skills
  • Improve emotional wellbeing

Frequently asked questions

We’ll answer your questions when you come down for a tour. In the meantime, here are answers to some of the more common ones we get.

What sort of art therapies do you offer for aged care residents?

Our art therapy classes use low-impact disciplines to ensure every resident can attend. We commonly use:

  • Painting, including finger painting
  • Drawing
  • Soft-clay sculpting
  • Collage-making
How effective is art therapy?

Numerous studies have shown that art therapies have significant benefits for older people. We’ve helped numerous residents achieve breakthroughs and remain active and emotionally healthy through our art therapy classes.

What if art therapy doesn’t work for me?

It may be that, for one reason or another, our art therapy classes are impossible for you to attend. Or you may find that sessions don’t deliver the relief you need. That’s normal — not all therapies work for all people.

We offer several other types of therapies that you may find more useful. Our therapists will create a bespoke treatment plan just for you, and they’ll make adjustments as needed.
