Our adaptable approach to Parkinson’s disease palliative care

Parkinson’s disease is a demanding one to manage, both for our residents and our team. That’s why we believe a resident-specific approach to palliative care is the best way to achieve the standard of living our residents deserve.

We adapt our palliative care plans to each resident’s evolving needs. We’ll tap into our network of specialists to provide the physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs they require as they require them.

  • We can care for associated comorbidities, such as dementia or depression
  • We offer medicated pain management support and physical therapy
  • We care for our patients as their Parkinson’s progresses to the end-of-life stage

Our residents have ranked us in the top 1% of Melbourne palliative care facilities. We’re quite proud of that. But we aren’t going to rest on our laurels. We’ve worked hard to earn their trust and will continue to do so by helping our residents build rich, rewarding lives.

Hear from our residents and family members

"What can I say about this place, very beautiful, hotel like residential place. I recently booked one of their dining rooms to celebrate an occasion with my mother, and we had a great time. The room was all equipped to ensure all guests were happy."

Why choose Oxa Care

Palliative and end-of-life care requires an approach as compassionate as it is medically experienced. At Oxa Care, we see these qualities as intrinsically linked. We strive to keep our residents happy and fulfilled, but the truth is that their outlook can sway from day to day. This is a natural and understandable reaction. But, through our decades of service in the aged care industry, we understand how to listen to their concerns and adapt our care. We believe our holistic approach makes us one of Melbourne’s leading palliative care providers for patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions we’re asked about our palliative care for Parkinson’s program. Please do contact us if you’d like to discuss any concerns.

How is Parkinson’s palliative care different from your regular care?

Residents with Parkinson’s disease need more intensive focus than our unafflicted residents. This isn’t always just a matter of round-the-clock attention. In most cases, it means we need to accommodate and organise several therapies and regular specialist visits, especially as the resident’s disease progresses. And, as the resident’s mobility deteriorates, we’ll find alternative ways to provide the care they need. That might mean telehealth appointments, in-house visits or other accessibility solutions.

What other conditions do you offer palliative care for?

We offer end-of-life and palliative care services for patients with a host of conditions, including:

  • Cancer
  • Dementia
  • Lung disease
  • Motor neurone disease
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Cardiac disease
  • Stroke

We also offer emergency palliative care for patients with sudden ailments.
