How our palliative care benefits residents with cardiac disease
Cardiac disease is a broad category of conditions with an equally broad array of symptoms and impairments. Our approach to palliative centres on our residents’ needs and concerns, which can evolve from day to day.
In order to create a secure and dignified home for our residents, we’ll work with their chosen specialists and adapt all of our therapies and medical services to suit their capabilities.
- 24/7 care for cardiac patients of all mobility levels
- Pain management through medication and physical therapy
- Tailored end-stage heart failure palliative care
A home-like environment
At the risk of sounding cliché, we want to create a home, not a house. Palliative care isn’t just about medical intervention, but about creating a warm, welcoming and comforting space where our residents can find support and camaraderie during life’s natural highs and lows.
24-hour care
Our resident nurses are more than just medical experts — they’re attentive and caring confidants.
Mental health care
Between individual counselling and group activities, our residents are always emotionally, socially and intellectually engaged.

Why choose Oxa Care?
Cardiac diseases can leave people in extremely fragile and vulnerable states, and our residents place enormous trust in us to care for them. We’re proud to say that our residents have voted Oxa Care into Melbourne's top 1% of aged care providers. Gratifying as it is, it’s also a responsibility we strive to maintain and exceed.
Community is everything
Our staff, aged care residents and palliative patients will welcome you and share your struggles and joys.
Tailored treatment
We offer several health, well-being and lifestyle services, which can be adapted to suit any resident’s needs.
The costs of palliative care for cardiac disease residents
In order to keep our care services as accessible as possible, you can pay for your stay with us via an upfront deposit daily payment, or a combination of the two. The entire $550,000 fee will be refunded to your estate at the end of your term with us. Bear in mind that at Oxa Care, we do not offer tiered services based on price points. Every one of our residents gets premium care, exactly as they deserve.
We’re ready for the difficult conversation
Sometimes, compassion calls for bluntness, so forgive us for being blunt. Cardiac disease can take a person’s life instantly and unexpectedly. We have a conversation with each of our residents about their end-of-life requests, which cover everything from pain management to do-not-rescue rules.
These are sensitive conversations, and we will provide you and your loved ones with all the support and guidance you need to ensure all parties agree to and are aware of everything that will happen and why.

Frequently asked questions
If you’d like to discuss specific queries and concerns with us directly, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We tailor every therapy and treatment to meet our residents' medical needs and physical capabilities.
The Australian Heart Research Institute lists four stages of heart failure. The earliest stage is an ‘at risk’ diagnosis, where the patient can still engage in ordinary physical activity. At the final stage, the patient is in an advanced state of immobility and cannot carry out basic day-to-day activities without discomfort or pain.
Residents in palliative care for cardiac disease typically struggle to exert themselves for significant periods of time; some are even entirely bedbound. We facilitate in-house therapies, medical professional visits, and telehealth appointments with caregivers to ensure all of our residents get the care they need.
